Asda is the latest supermarket to recall a product due to it being unsafe to eat. The food retailer is asking those who have already bought it to return it to their local store for a refund.
Food recalls are issued when there is a health and safety problem with a product. This means it is unsafe to eat due to a health or allergy fear, such as containing an unknown or incorrect ingredient not mentioned on the label.
Asda is taking the precautionary action of recalling three Asda Extra Special Mince Pies because they may contain pieces of plastic, which makes them unsafe to eat.
The mince pies come in three different flavours, and all potentially contain plastic.
The Extra Special Four Apple & Pecan Crumble Mince Pies is one flavour, and all dates up to and including December 13, 2022, are affected.
Another is the Extra Special Four Extra Indulgent Mince Pies. These also come in packs of four and all dates up to and including December 28, 2022, are affected.
The last batch of affected mince pies is the Extra Special Four Crumble Top Mince Pies.
All dates up to and including December 13, 2022, are affected.
The Food Standards Association (FSA), which often publishes details of food recalls on its website, shared a risk statement. It said: “These products may contain pieces of plastic which makes them unsafe to eat.”
The organisation also outlined the action taken by the company, stating: “Asda is recalling the above products from customers.
